چکیده
Heart and skeletal muscle inflammation (HSMI) caused by Piscine orthoreovirus (PRV) was first described in farmed Atlantic salmon Chile 2011. However, as PRV induces long-lasting infections, it is not known when Chilean may have started to show positivity. This study aimed evaluate the presence/absence of PRV-1 formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded heart tissues (FFPE) cultured during 1992 1999. The most frequent histopathological findings 42 FFPE blocks were mild focal cardiomyocyte degeneration (57.1%) a mononuclear inflammatory infiltrate (21.4%) ventricular stratum spongiosum heart. One samples analyzed RT-qPCR positive for (2.4%). All negative other viral bacterial pathogens that can induce similar histological changes Taken together, our results has been present Chile—as low-virulence genogroup—since at least 1994, 17 years before HSMI outbreak Finally, archaeovirology be valid alternative contribute understanding epidemiology diseases aquaculture.

Piscine orthoreovirus (PRV) infects Atlantic salmon erythrocytes
Piscine orthoreovirus (PRV) belongs to the Reoviridae family and is the only known fish virus related to the Orthoreovirus genus. The virus is the causative agent of heart and skeletal muscle inflammation (HSMI), an emerging disease in farmed Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar L.). PRV is ubiquitous in farmed Atlantic salmon and high loads of PRV in the heart are consistent findings in HSMI. The mech...
متن کاملPiscine orthoreovirus (PRV) replicates in Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar L.) erythrocytes ex vivo
Piscine orthoreovirus (PRV) is a reovirus that has predominantly been detected in Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar L.). PRV is associated with heart and skeletal muscle inflammation (HSMI) in farmed Atlantic salmon, and recently erythrocytes were identified as major target cells. The study of PRV replication and pathogenesis of the infection has been impeded by the inability to propagate PRV in vit...
متن کاملPiscine orthoreovirus (PRV) in red and melanised foci in white muscle of Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar)
Melanised focal changes (black spots) are common findings in the white skeletal muscle of seawater-farmed Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar). Fillets with melanised focal changes are considered as lower quality and cause large economic losses. It has been suggested that red focal changes (red spots) precede the melanised focal changes. In the present work, we examined different populations of captiv...
متن کاملQuantification of piscine reovirus (PRV) at different stages of Atlantic salmon Salmo salar production.
The newly described piscine reovirus (PRV) appears to be associated with the development of heart and skeletal muscle inflammation (HSMI) in farmed Atlantic salmon Salmo salar L. PRV seems to be ubiquitous among fish in Norwegian salmon farms, but high viral loads and tissue distribution support a causal relationship between virus and disease. In order to improve understanding of the distributi...
متن کاملThe non-structural protein μNS of piscine orthoreovirus (PRV) forms viral factory-like structures
Piscine orthoreovirus (PRV) is associated with heart- and skeletal muscle inflammation in farmed Atlantic salmon. The virus is ubiquitous and found in both farmed and wild salmonid fish. It belongs to the family Reoviridae, closely related to the genus Orthoreovirus. The PRV genome comprises ten double-stranded RNA segments encoding at least eight structural and two non-structural proteins. Ery...
